CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to each and every team for your success, but first and foremost for always showing good sportsmanship and always being complimentary of each other and every team. It’s not about where you place, it is about learning to perform and learning to show how much character you have when things do not always go as you expected. Dance is an art and it is very difficult to judge. As we always have said, it is an opinion. Our technique scores were very high and broke many ties. That is why it is so important to attend your ballet technique classes and the workshops that concentrate on technique as much as possible.

Tryouts will be held on July 24 and July 25. We will post a schedule soon on our website. Please wear all black dancewear. We will have the University of Tennessee Dance team members judging our tryouts. Please be on your best behavior at tryouts. You do make an impression on these judges and they will mark your score lower if you enter the room with a bad attitude. We will use their scores to pick our teams this year, so please work hard over the next few weeks.

The Elite teams will also be selected from tryouts. Please understand the commitment if you are considering trying out for the Elite teams. If you need more explanation of the Elite teams, please feel free to email us for more info. We will try to work around school activities for rehearsal times, but we will not work around other dance studio schedules. Again, please understand the commitment to be an Elite dancer for Legacy.

We are very blessed to be associated with such wonderful families. The friendships you are creating will be ties that will last a lifetime.

NATIONALS!

We are so excited to be in our last few days of preparation for nationals! Thank you all so very much for all your hard work and dedication over the past couple of weeks in preparation for nationals.
Please try to arrive at the competition at least 2 hours before our compete times. A couple of the dances will be competing early (just like in Atlanta) due to costume changes. Arrive at the competition with hair and makeup done for your first dance.
Double check that you have all your costumes and accessories after packing your bags.
Please check with Shawn if you have any broken accessories. We do have a few extra accessories if needed.
Please buy new tights if needed. We want everything to look great!
Always be polite and complimentary of the other teams and of your teammates at all times.
We are so proud of everyone. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication in making this a wonderful first year.

Summer Intensive Prices Lowered

We have lowered the summer intensive prices in hopes that more students will be able to attend.

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Change to June 14th Week Schedule

We have changed the intensive schedule around a little for next week's intensives so that maybe more of the younger students can attend the leaps and turns class. This is a very important class to attend. We understand that it is alot on the younger students with rehearsals and the intensives, but they will learn alot in the leaps and turns classes. Not complaining about the attendance, just trying to work out the schedule so that more of them can attend this class. Thanks so much!

Legacy Elite Dance Company Information

Legacy Elite Dance Company Information

We have been receiving many questions about the Elite Company that will be selected at team tryouts. Hope this helps. If you have other questions, please email and we will be glad to answer them.

1.What is Legacy Elite Dance Company?
Legacy Elite will consist of up to 9 students selected from each team that will compete as Legacy small groups, duo/trios and solos in the 2010 – 2011 dance year.

2.How will the Legacy Elite students be chosen?
At the Legacy Competition Team tryouts on July 24 and July 25, the student and parent will fill out an application to be considered for the Elite Company. The Elite Companies will consist of the top scoring students within a distinct scoring range.

For example, if 12 students on the 10 year old team would like to be considered for the Elite Company, but only 7 of the students have scored high enough to be on the Elite Company, then only those 7 will be on the team.

Legacy also holds the right not to accept a student on the Elite Company, regardless of score, who does not have a good work ethic, bad attitude or causes problems in the classroom. The Elite Company will consist of students who want to take dance to the next level.

3. What are the expectations of the Elite Company students?
The Elite Company students will attend their regularly scheduled competition team rehearsal time which will continue to be one and half hour with one technique class required per week.

On top of the normal team requirements, the Elite student will also be required to attend Thursday night from 7:00 to 8:00 pm for ThunderBoltz and SpitFires and Thursday night from 8:00 to 9:00 pm for Phantoms and B52’s. We will work on advanced technical skills during this time. Also, choreography and rehearsals will be scheduled for many Saturdays, but not every Saturday.

4. What is the cost to be a member of the Legacy Elite Company?
Elite Team Members will be billed $15 more monthly on top of the regular competition team monthly statement.

LEGACY COMPETITION TRYOUT DATES SET

Legacy Dance Competition Team tryout dates have been set for July 24 for ThunderBoltz, SpitFires and Phantoms. July 25 for the B52s. BombShells will be by invitation. Detailed times will be posted soon. If you have conflicts with these dates, please email TheLegacyDance@gmail.com and we will set up a pre-tryout for you. Thanks!

Thanks to My BombShells!

“BELIEVE” was the University of Tennessee Dance Team’s inspiration in 2007 when we won our first collegiate national championship. It is a memory that I will cherish forever. I believe in many things. I believe in God. I believe in my family. I believe in my friends. I believe in miracles. I do believe Legacy Dance Studio was a miracle and a blessing. I thank Mrs. Cathy Turner for believing in me and allowing me to live my dream. Words cannot explain the joy the students have brought into my life. I am so very thankful each and every day for having this opportunity . Mrs. Cathy, you are a very selfless lady and your love for these students inspires me so much. The students still talk about you all the time and will never forget the woman who introduced them to their passion for dance. I hope to continue filling their lives with the love of dance and continue your Legacy.

To all of my dancers, I couldn’t have drawn up a more perfect experience as a first year studio owner and teacher. Whether you are new to dance or were a former CDS student, I am forever grateful for you believing in me and allowing me to live out my dream. From the babies, that make me smile every week they walk into the room, to my senior dancers that I hate so much to lose after tonight, I have met the most wonderful people that I now consider family. I couldn’t be more thankful for the students and parents that have stuck by me as I learn the ropes of starting a business and sharing my passion and knowledge of dance. I’m so proud to call you all the first class of Legacy Dancers and I hope this year has been as wonderful for you as it has for me. Good luck this weekend! I know you will all be amazing and I cannot wait to reveal what we’ve worked so hard for all year!

To all Legacy Student Parents and Grandparents, Thank you so much for allowing your children to dance at Legacy Dance Studio. I appreciate your support in making this a very successful first year. Thanks to many of you for the endless hours in the “sweat shop” working on costumes, cutting our music and always being there if needed for anything. Your encouragement has been such an inspiration to me. I know that I am truly blessed to know such giving and supportive parents and grandparents.

Stacey, Thank you so much for continuing to teach at the studio this year and sharing your passion for tap with the kids. It’s been so helpful having a former CDS teacher around to guide me and give advice. Thank you for being here tonight and sharing these memories at our first recital.

Lindsey, I am so thankful for you coming along and helping me through a tough crunch in the year. You have never missed a day and are incredibly reliable. You are such a wonderful teacher and I know the students have learned a lot from you. I wish you could be here tonight to watch your dances on stage!

To my Helpers, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! These girls help me create and remember formations, video our progress each week, help control behavior, help me remember all of the dances, assist me at competitions and recital and so much more. Girls, thanks a million. I could not get through it without all of your help!

Amy, Thank you so much for keeping me organized through this crazy part of the year. From dealing with payments and costume orders to broken water fountains and cleaning up trash, you have helped me tremendously. I cannot thank you enough!

Mom, I cannot even begin to thank you enough for everything you have done for me and this studio. I’m not sure how you manage all you do, but you are an amazing woman and I thank God for you every day. We may not agree on everything, but without you, my job is impossible and I hope you know how thankful I am for you.

Dad, You are one of the hardest working people I know. You have given me the drive to go after my dreams and work so hard to make it happen. I know you thought you were done with dance recitals/competitions about 6 years ago, so the fact that you are here says a lot! Thank you for always supporting me…you are a good daddy!

Andy, We’ve had a crazy first year of marriage. We’ve lived in three different states and spent much time apart. I guess that’s the way it is when we are both following our dreams. I am so thankful for you supporting me through everything and I know all of the kids can’t wait to have you back as the studio janitor. Nolensville Elementary Rehearsal

Directions to Nolensville Elementary School:
Take Nolensville Road toward Nolensville. Go past Sonic, go past the old Nolensville Elementary school that is on Nolensville road. Take a left onto Rocky Fork Road. Go about a half mile and you will see the New Nolensville Elementary school on the left. We are rehearsing in the Gymnasium and it is in the back of the school.

---Please bring water only to the rehearsal. Please do not bring food or soft drinks to the rehearsal. We do not want to be charged for a cleaning fee.

---We would like for one parent to attend the rehearsal and no siblings please.

---Please remember to wear your black dance wear and no t-shirts or street shorts. Please wear foot undies or jazz shoes. No socks please. Please do not wear your tap shoes on the gymnasium floor for this rehearsal. Hair should be in a bun or a pony tail.

---Please do not bring glitter of any kind into the gymnasium.

---This rehearsal is to help the students understand how quickly the dances will be moving on and off the stage. We will all need to be paying attention at all times and be as quiet as possible.

---If you are waiting on your turn to dance, do not be up and running around. Stay with your class and be prepared to be in the designated dressing room area (we will have a mock dressing area set up) to meet your team caption 7 dances before your dance.

Please email us at TheLegacyDance@gmail.com if you have any questions about this rehearsal.

Team Info

I can't tell you how proud I am of our Legacy Dance Competition teams. We have accomplished so very much in less than a year. I want the teams to set the standards at the Premiere 2010 rehearsals and recitals. Everyone will be watching you for guidance. They will follow your lead.

I have asked for everyone to try to wear black dance wear to the rehearsals at Nolensville and for the first "non-dress" rehearsal at TPAC. Please do not wear t-shirts or street shorts to these rehearsals. We are dancers. Let's start looking like dancers. Please wear foot undies or jazz shoes to dance. No socks please. Also, please pull your hair back in a ponytail or bun.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, but for you there is no bottom to my heart. You have worked so hard and accomplished so much. We will learn even more in our summer intensives. It is very important to attend as many of the summer intensives as you possibly can. This will help us score even better at nationals.
Love to you all always!

Competition Reminders and Checklist

Just some quick reminders for students and parents for competition this weekend:

1. Always be courteous when walking to and from your seat in the auditoriums. Do not try to find a seat or stand up in the middle of the aisleways while a team is dancing. You are blocking the view of other parents and grandparents trying to watch their children perform.

2. Be kind to each other always.

3. Always show good sportsmanship. Always congratulate the other teams and other studios....always.

4. Arrive 2 hours before your competition time...always.

5. Call Shawn or Janie cell phones if you are going to be late. 708-0194 Shawn
708-0936 Janie.

6. Secure your hairpieces BombShells and ThunderBoltz.

7. Safety Pin the necks of your Hot Stuff dresses Phantoms.

8. Check your music cuts Shawn. (Just had to put this one in)

9. Always smile on and off stage. Point your toes and lower your shoulders...relax . Life is good...always!

10. Good Luck to us all! Everyone have a safe trip!

11. Love to you all!

Legacy Elite Company Information

Legacy Elite Team Information

Many have been asking about the Legacy Elite teams that will be formed for the 2010 – 2011 competition season. We would like to offer the Elite teams to students who want to concentrate on dance more than 1 day per week. The plans are to create possibly 3 Elite teams in addition to the existing teams. The Elite students will compete as soloists, duo/trios, small groups and possibly large group or even line dances. Elite students will be required to attend the weekly team practice as they do now, plus Elite students will be required to attend 2 technique classes, special Thursday(7:30 pm or after) and Saturday (not every Saturday) rehearsals.

The existing teams will function as they do now with the 1.5 hour weekly rehearsal and the required 1 technique class per week.

We hope this helps answer some of the questions. More detailed information will be published at a later date.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Remaining Competition Facts

Our remaining competitions will be Stage One Atlanta and our nationals in Gatlinburg. All other "extra" competition rumors are false. Soloists are welcome to enter other competitions as Legacy Dance, but will need to go through Shawn to register for these competitions.

Company Competition Rules

Company Rules for Competitions

1. Always make it a rule to arrive 2 hours prior to performance time with hair and makeup completely ready to dance. Some competitions get ahead of schedule and we need to always be prepared for these situations
2. Please wear your Legacy WarmUps to cover your costumes at all times. If you do not have a Legacy WarmUp, then please wear something over your costume to prevent spills or getting makeup on your costumes. It is always a good idea to only allow sprite or water for drinks on competition days.
3. I will assign one or multiple team captains per competition. The captain(s) will be responsible for accepting any awards that we may win. No one else should approach the presenter unless requested for the entire team to be recognized.
4. We will always show good sportsmanship. This rule has always been very important to me. If you are a soloist, please make sure you always congratulate the other soloists competing with you. Notice the word “with” and not “against”. Dance competitions are very tough to judge. We should not discriminate against someone else’s opinion of us or others. We will respect the judges opinions at all times.
5. How we act in the dressing rooms, on stage and in the audience will create a reflection of Legacy Dance Studio. We will not tolerate any student’s or parent’s misbehavior. This is a ZERO tolerance rule. You will be asked to leave the team if you intentionally disgrace the team by misbehavior. Never EVER talk about another team in disrespect….you never know who is listening to you.
6. I request 2 hour arrival before each performance so that I can take the team and stretch with them and we will walk through our performance. Parents, please understand this is a time that I need with them and I need their full attention. I request that no parents view our rehearsals while preparing at competitions. The students are not paying attention to me if their parents, grandparents and aunts and uncles are all gathered around at our rehearsal time. They must be focused during this time of preparation. Thanks in advance for understanding.
7. If you are running late, please call Shawn’s cell (615)708-0194 or Janie’s cell at (615)708-0936 to let us know. Please put these numbers in your cell phones. You never know when you may need to contact us to find out where the team is rehearsing if you are running late, but please try not to run late.
8. Label all your belongings. The dressing rooms get crazy and things get misplaced very frequently. Our costumes are custom made so if would be impossible to create another one.

Everyone has worked so hard. I am so proud of everything that has been accomplished. Legacy Dance has been blessed with the best students ever!
Parents, thank you so so very much for working endless hours on the costumes and bringing your children to the weekend practice times. You are the greatest!
Let’s all pull together as a team during this competition season and enjoy our good times together. In the end, it’s always about watching our students mature and building their self-esteem to become a confident adult.
With all my heart! Shawn

Competition Makeup

Saskia will be bringing makeup on Wednesday to finalize all teams. We will get together orders so that a couple of students can share if they would like.

Saskia is helping with the Army choreography. She graduated from UT and was on the UT dance team with Shawn. She majored in theatrical makeup. She now works for Channel.

You do not need to attend the makeup session on Wednesday. We will let you know on Friday. Thanks!
